Frequently asked Questions
How do I Install my Keycap?
Be extremely gentle when installing and removing my keycaps.
- To install my keycaps, remove the old keycap with a wire keycap puller, line up the cross-shaped stem of the new keycap with the mechanical switch in an orientation you like, and then gently press it down; do not force it.
- To remove my keycaps, carefully use a WIRE KEYCAP PULLER, place the wires under opposing corners, and gently pull STRAIGHT up, while holding the keyboard down with your other hand.
Will they fit on my keyboard?
My keycaps are compatible with ""MX"-style switches and use ".0u" sizing. I most commonly sell 1.0u-size keycaps for use on letter, number, and esc keys. I also sell all the other keycap sizes, like a 2.0u for your backspace keycap, for example. For more detailed information, visit this page.
How do I care for my keycap?
I only use materials that are durable enough for daily use; however, I ask that you treat them as if they were fragile.
- To clean my keycaps, use a soft-bristle toothbrush with hand soap and gently scrub the stone. Make sure to rinse thoroughly and allow the inside of the keycap to dry completely before installing.
- Use the included yellow polishing cloth to remove tarnish off of metals such as brass, copper, and silver.
How do you source your stones?
Most of my rough material I buy from trusted contacts at the annual Tucson Gem Show in Arizona. The largest gathering of rock, mineral, fossil, and jewelry dealers in the world. The rest I dig myself or buy online from other dealers.
Where are my keycaps made?
I personally hand-make all of my work from scratch in the USA (Utah, to be specific), unless otherwise specified.
How many keycaps come in an order?
Each order includes one artisan keycap unless specified otherwise. (I sometimes will sell sets of 4, for example.)
Can they be too heavy?
No, I've never had any complaints about my keycaps' weight, nor have I ever had an issue in my testing or use. The exact weight of the keycap will depend on the density and volume of the materials used.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, I currently use USPS priority mail. More info here.
What profile are your keycaps?
My keycaps match no standard keycap set "profile"; they are made to best display the stone. A keycap's profile refers to its specific shape, height, and slope. Different profiles change how your keyboard looks, sounds, and feels to type on. For more info visit this page.
What is the return policy?
My goal is for every customer to be totally satisfied, more info here.
When will I get my order?
We will ship your order out as soon as possible, usually within 7 days of when it is placed. More info here.
